Crown Uniform President Chris Spilios Passes Away

BOSTON, MA. (March, 2014) - Chris Spilios, president of Crown Uniform & Linen Service, passed away on March 30, 2014, at Brigham and Women's Hospital after an ongoing battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was 67.

Chris attended Ohio University and graduated with a BA in Business from Boston University. He was honored to be a member of the United States Marine Corps and served in the Reserves from 1966-1972. Chris joined his family business, Crown Linen Service, Inc. in 1969 where he successfully combined his passion for business with his strong sense of integrity.

Crown Uniform & Linen Service has been a family owned and operated business since 1914, serving customers throughout New England for 100 years. Crown is now a fourth generation family business that Chris proudly operated with his brother, Arthur, nephew, Plato, and son, George. Chris was active within the textile / commercial laundering industry and will be missed by many. He played a daily hands-on role in the company, and was a driving force behind Crown's latest expansion project in Brockton, MA.

His son, George Spilios, says; "We are going to miss his energy, dedication, and love for Crown and its employees. His legacy will certainly be represented with our new building in Brockton, which was one of his lifelong dreams."

Known as "Chip" by his close friends and family, he was an active parishioner of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, and served as an Archon of The Ecumenical Patriarchate of The Greek Orthodox Church. He was a member of several organizations such as the Hamilton Trust, The Villagers and The Alpha Omega Group.

Chip was an avid golfer and long-time member of Brae Burn Country Club, in West Newton, MA. and of The Wianno Club in Osterville, MA. In recent years Chris worked to raise awareness and funds to help support Pulmonary Fibrosis Research at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He is the founder of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Research Fund, an organization that directly supports Pulmonary Fibrosis research at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Chris was the loving husband of Allys (Van Landegend) and the son of the late Plato and Fofo (Dollas) Spilios of Lexington, MA. He is survived by his three children; Christina Farren and husband Thomas Farren, Vanessa Spilios, and George Spilios, and four grandchildren; Athena, Theodore, Bruce and Owen Farren. He leaves his brother Arthur and wife Marisa Spilios, his brother Damon and wife Andrea Spilios, and his sister Joanne Spilios. He also leaves nephew Plato Spilios and his wife Kathryn, nieces Penelope and Angelina Spilios and godson, Alexander Demers.
